Dipper understanding inside the classroom

Hi again everyone, as you have seen I have been talking about rhetoric of classrooms and how people use rhetoric inside the classrooms. Many of us probably don't know that we encounter many types of rhetoric when we go inside a classroom. We already know that 3 types of rhetoric are ethos, pathos and logos. Well today i am mainly going to talk about logos. Logos, as we all know, is the appeal of using logic like reasons to persuade the reader.

We use logos in a classroom to improve our knowledge by using facts and reasons from experts. Examples of logos can be seen in textbooks because they have facts that came from experts. Charts can also be part of it because its facts. In math, 1 + 1 = ? we all know its 2 but what if someone else say its 3? What reasons or facts can we provide him to prove him wrong? Well we could tell that person that if you use your fingers, 1 finger symbolizes 1 and add another finger, then its 2 not 3. Now having that said, did anyone notice whats wrong with my tittle? The word "Dipper" instead of "Deeper" isnt it the same? "I" in short sound? Well I think that it is wrong and the word "Dipper" has a different meaning than deeper. Dipper means a cuplike container with a long handle, used for dipping liquids. Deeper means to or at a considerable or specified depth. Both definition are not similar which makes it wrong. Logos applied to it because i gave reasons why it is wrong by using facts. The Definitions came from the dictionary which is a source that came from experts.

Logos could be everywhere in a classroom and it could be used in many ways. Logos can persuade a person about a topic because you are giving them reasons/facts and they would get a better understanding about it.

Dear James,
I understand what you are saying and from the examples that you gave we do use logos in classroom. If it weren't for logos we wouldn't have any knowledge and it would be like everything that we learn is a lie because there isn't any facts or any kind of support to it. Good job on your blog.

You are very helpfull in explaining logos. I know what you mean by proving a person one plus one is two. I like the example that you use. The second example surprise me. Deeper is very different form dipper. I notice the mistake but i tought that you did it by accident i like that you did that on the beginning. However, i told a person before you that we are in the web and you should give a quick summary of what is rhetoric. Many people dont like to read alot so they are not going to read the whole post you have. You should just go over what is rhetoric quickly.

James,

you are right, logos is used in the classrooms. more in humanities and chemistry. the reason is because there are documents that jusitfied what the teacher is talking about and teaching us. in chemistry, when Mr. Seo tells us to justified it when we tell him something that is using logos.

there are other rehotrical strategies that are used in the classroom. there are other strategies that are used in the classroom that is still waiting to be discovered and posted by YOU.

Dear James,
I’ve never really noticed that we use rhetoric in our classrooms all the time. It’s bee in front of me all the time, but we see this on a daily bases that we use logos. I like to comment you on your example it was very simple, and it got straight to the point. It was very understandable, which any person would easily understand without having any difficulties.
Sincerely,
Masyeli M.

Hi Jams!
Logos really is a huge part of math. Logos is logic and logic is a part of math.
And since math is a part of chemistry, and logic is a part of math, you can say that logos is also a part of chemistry!
Ooh, we also use logos in humanities when we're coming up w/ conclusions about whatever we're reading. Like today's activities with the Great Depression. We can use logic to say that the Great Depression was named so because of how the country was and how the people felt during this time.

James,

There is no other thing in a classroom that makes it a classroom. Without the why to something you learn it is really difficult to believe. There has got to be that logic behind it. It can not just be a "because I said so" explanation. Everything has a reason and you did well in explaining that. Way to use Logos in order to explain the Logos in a classroom.
