Emotional Appeals Inside a Classroom

Hi everyone, I am here to talk about rhetoric of classrooms. I know that I had talked about logos which is another rhetoric that could be used in classrooms. There are 2 other types of rhetoric that i haven't talked about which are ethos and pathos but today i will talk about pathos. As we all know, pathos is a type of rhetoric that is an emotional appeal. This rhetoric can make a person feel good or bad emotions.

Most pathos rhetoric appeals to people because of their word usage to make a person feel a certain way. In a classroom this rhetoric can be used everywhere. Teachers, textbooks, essays, pictures, and such could show such appeal. For Example, when i was in Mr. Del Real's class he talked about how he worked and fixed someone's house and he was proud about it because it was his own work. Apparently he didnt feel proud being in that classroom that one moment because his work isnt showing and didnt show any improvements. He works hard in his job but the feeling of accomplishing anything didnt show. When Mr. Del Real said that to the whole class it made me feel a that i should do better than i should. It appealed to my emotions because it made me feel bad and thought to myself that i should do better.

Pathos could also be used in many ways in a classroom. It makes people feel a certain way in different ways but it will only happen if you choose your words correctly. If you use words that makes a person angry but you want them to be happy then it wont work that way.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE =)

James, HAPPY HOLIDAYS :)
anyway, what are other ways that the classrooms apply pathos? i know that the classrooms contain pathos. especially if there is a couple in the same classroom and then after it just gets wierd after that.

do you know why the students apply pathos in the classrooms? i am just saying this because the classrooms itself does not contain pathos, the students that are in the classroom contain pathos. the classroom is just there but the students are the ones that bring in all of the drama.

Ooo? He said that? What happened?

I think you used an excellent topic to support the chosen rhetoric. I agree with V.R, what else is there that shows pathos in a classroom?

Maybe a poster or something? To help you out, you know that Ms.Tran is promoting and encouraging several, preferably, girls to donate hair? Well, that seriously get to people when she brings up the cause about benefiting those who suffer from cancer.

Keep it coming. Happy holidays!

Hey there James,

It is true that pathos can be found in the midst of any classroom because that is how it is. I mean you see people flirting in class and not pay attention. I remember when i was in seventh grade this girl would always be talking and flirting with me and it was almost impossible to pay attention. I would always try my best, but it was hard because of so many girls surrounding me. Well anyways, i have to agree that pathos is for sure found in the classroom. I know it and i can testify it even if i have to be hanged.

Hey James
well i would like to begin by wishing you a Happy Late New Years:]

Well hmmm
pathos
Pathos, is really interesting you can find it anywhere...
Well i would like to emplasize my comment on mr. Del Real. I have seen the way he utilizes pathos to both make us feel down on the way we look at the work we present and how it motivates us to do better. Pathos is like a quote it can be take differently depending on the way a person thinks and acts.
An example of a time mr. DR used pathos in his class was when we took a fairly easy test which more than 60 % of the class failed(including me) he expressed in his caring tone of voice how he was not dissapointed on us but on himself because he believed that he was not being a good teacher and that his methods didnt work. This hit me strongly because i knew otherwise. Mr. Delreal is an exceptional teacher and the only reason why the statistics where the way they were was because us the students didnt take that test seriously. This event influenced me to work harder.

Hello James,
I actually know about the thing with D.R, because he actually told me himself. It is also true that D.R uses alot of pathos because he will either make us feel good when we do our work right. Or make us feel right down ashamed about the work we did as well. But as my other peers said maybe you can tell us more pathos that there is in our classrooms. Like the Hair Donation that we are doing for the poor people that have cancer. Good job man, keep finding more rhetoric in classrooms.

Dear James,
You stated that there is a lot of pathos in a classroom and like some of our fellow clasmates said what are other example that show pahtos in a classroom? Maybe it is true there is a lot of them, but we don't seem to pay attention to them all the time because we are busy. How do textbooks show pathos? come to realize I remeber a few things that have shown pathos in a classroom and it is true.
